Please start a final copy of your explorer report at home. Please do not include the research questions or parts of the paragraph graphic organizers. The final should incorporate edits from your rough draft.
Math: Worksheet 8.1 The Chapter 9 tests went home today. If you choose to correct your answers, I will give half credit for corrections. Overall, the fifth grade did very well.

Language Arts: Yes, the explorer report has now moved to language arts. We will be focusing on editing and revising. You must rewrite your rough draft and double space your writing to allow for editing. If you already did this for your body paragraphs, it should not be too much work.
Math: WE HAVE A TEST TOMORROW!! Review is homework, page 203 #1-25. Please do this neatly on loose leaf with numbered problems and showing your work.

We will begin reading "The Mixed-up Files of Basil E. Frankweiler" next week. Through this book, we will practice the literature circle jobs that will become very important in subsequent novel assignments.
Also we will be talking about our research paper assignment next week. Please be looking for a project sheet similar to the one given out for our first publishing.

We also picked our explorers for the next big writing project. We will be compiling a research paper on an early explorer to the new world. Ask your student who they will be researching.

Parents are invited if you are available. We will have some juice and little treats. The party starts at 1:15 in our classroom.

Students complete your weekend homework packet. For the last few weeks we have been trying a new strategy to keep the class on task. Each time there is too much noise and not enough attention we get a letter on the board. If we spell homework by week's end, the students get weekend homework. It has been working well but today we got our final "K"! So weekend homework it is! Please be sure to turn in everything, including the science vocabulary review, on Monday morning. Hopefully, this is the first and last time we have weekend homework, yucky!

Here is what you need for Camp Willson:
ESSENTIAL
o Sack Lunch for Monday 4/7/08
o Water Bottle with your name on it!
o Raincoat/Poncho (ponchos are not permitted on Horseback Trail Rides)
o Sturdy comfortable shoes/rubber boots/duck shoes
o Two pairs of shoes/boots (at least one pair of tennis shoes)
o Warm jacket/coat
o Sweater/sweatshirt (try to dress in layers)
o Pajamas
o Daily change of underwear and socks
o Daily change of pants and shirts (long pants must be worn to ride horses)
o Warm hat, scarf, mittens (extra mittens are helpful)
o Snowmobile type boots or other warm boots
o Extra sweaters/sweatshirts
o Winter coat
o Long underwear, snowsuit and/or sweatpants
o Sleeping bag or sheets and blankets
o Pillow

Tuesday
Great field trip fun was had by all. There were some fabulous wipe-outs and some minor bruising, but it was all worth it. We learned more about friction and got to do an experiment on the roller skating rink! Unfortunately we got back just in the nick of time for buses, so the only homework is carried over from yesterday...
